Recorded in 1989 and 1990 for the 25th anniversary of Malmo School and Malmo Plains Community League in Edmonton, Alberta. Created by Mrs. D Olstad, Miss Lynne Harrison, and year 4/5 students. Featuring the principal Jackie Hoble and founder of the Apple Innovation Centre, Gloria Cathcart.

50th Anniversary and Reunion

Malmo Plains Community's 50th Anniversary celebration on June 6, 2015 was a huge success!  Many people who live in or have lived in Malmo Plains, have attended Malmo Plains Elementary School or have been a part of the community in another way reunited on this historic occasion!

12:00 - 14:00 // Food Truck Lunch // Tarmac
Join us for lunch at the tastiest food truck, the Lemon Grass Grill! Keep an eye on this page for updates if additional trucks are added.

12:00 - 16:00 // Bouncy Castles // Field South of Playground
What better way to start a celebration than with four hours of an exhilarating bouncy castle such as the “Adrenaline Rush II” from Astro Jump of Edmonton. Additional bouncy castle(s) will also be available.

13:00 - 16:00 // Sports and Activities // Courts and Fields
Take advantage of Malmo’s great courts and fields by joining in:

  • Beach volleyball at 13:00,
  • Potato sack races, tug of war, parachutes and more at 14:00,
  • Baseball/softball at 16:00.

15:00 // Time Capsule Opening // Celebration Tent
Don’t miss the historic opening of the 25 year Malmo time capsule. Items were placed in this time capsule, shaped like a large pencil, by students of Malmo Elementary School 25 years ago. It has hung in the library at Malmo School for nearly the entire time since then. Be a part of history by witnessing it’s opening!

Bring your own Malmo related historical photos and artifacts to show them off over the weekend of the celebration. Scanned or other digital items can be sent in advance to tprentice@gmail.com if you would like them to be included in a slideshow and/or the “Celebrate Malmo” website.

16:00 - 17:00 // Flags Match // Malmo Playground
Relive your childhood, or if you are still a child, live your childhood, by playing a game of Flags.  Flags is a specific version of Capture the Flag that was created in Malmo back in the early ‘90s.  You may recall a large group of kids playing Flags at the playground every night at 19:00 for much of the decade.

At 17:00 the ticketed portion of the evening will commence with the opening of a cash bar.

Purchase your tickets now for the buffet dinner catered by Cellar Door Catering, a tasty Edmonton-based boutique caterer.  The dinner includes:

  • seared chicken breast with mushroom cream,
  • beef bourguignon,
  • seasonal roasted vegetables,
  • rough-mashed potato with caramelized onion,
  • two additional salads,
  • dessert, and more!

Bring your lawn furniture and your sleeping bags, stay up late, and watch the new real life Cinderella movie,  outside in the park!  You may even catch a glimpse of a few stars, constellations, and planets.

A number of Malmo Community’s past presidents will be flipping reasonably priced pancakes for breakfast, just seconds away from your tent if you joined us for the camp out!

We’ll close out the celebrations with an anniversary cake and a huge thank you to all of Malmo’s volunteers of the past 50 years.
