Soccer

The soccer program runs in two seasons. We have indoor soccer which usually runs in the fall and winter and outdoor soccer which usually runs in the spring towards the end of April until the end of June.

Both programs are under the umbrella of the Southwest zone with the Edmonton Minor Soccer Association. Known as SWEMSA and EMSA, they administer and regulate these programs.

Registration for the indoor soccer program is handled directly by SWEMSA. However, the outdoor program is handled by both Malmo Community league (tiers 4 and under), and SWEMSA (tiers 1 to 3 under the Sting teams program).

Parents who are interested in registering their children in these programs should check with related administrators at least two months before the season starts.

For the Malmo portion, you can contact the soccer coordinators via e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  For the 2009 outdoor season, the current coordinators are Kelly Heatherington (780-758-8017) and Emad El-Zein (home 780-644-0437 or cell 780-242-6123). Please note that we need new soccer coordinators for the 2010 season as both current coordinators are stepping down after the end of the outdoor program in 2009.  This would be a great time to step forward to learn the ropes of the trade!

Malmo Elementary School Integrates Beach and Rink Sports into Phys Ed Program

The community league has made our sports equipment and beach area available to our elementary school.  Our group equipment includes volleyball, dodgeball, portable beach soccer nets and balls, court lines, badminton and street hockey.  On a recent tour of the facility and equipment, the Phys Ed coordinating teacher for the school was excited to see the possible alternatives now available.   The sand has been professionally cleaned and is very safe for bare feet.   The heights of the nets can be adjusted. Outlets for the kids' energy are welcome, especially this time of year.
